The last time the Auburn Tigers faced off against UPenn in baseball you have to go all the way back to the year 1995. Auburn won that game 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament. Now 28 years later, the Quakers from the Ivy League had payback on their minds.

"I'm reminded that true success is defined with effort and process and not results, and I thought I got great effort from our ball club tonight. I thought our pitching staff just kind of held us at bay until right there at the end we had a couple of chances", said Auburn Head Coach Butch Thompson.

One of the major story lines of the night was just how uneasy and off-balance Penn pitching kept Auburn batters all night long.

"I thought offensively, 14 strikeouts, we just were not resilient. Couldn't link up enough offensively to keep pace with a very quality Penn team", said Thompson.

"We we'll have to get back out here tomorrow and understand that it's all about tomorrow. We tried to invest as much as we could to make today important, we'll have to do the same thing and try and fight our hearts out to be here on Sunday. That's kind of the next step for us", said Thompson.

Now this isn’t the end of the road for Auburn baseball, but they've certainly made life a lot more difficult for themselves. They’ll head to the loser's bracket where they’ll now need to win 4 straight games if they want to come out of their own regional. Auburn will square off with Southern Miss tomorrow at 2 p.m. with their season on the line.
