It was a perfect day for golf Monday afternoon on the banks of Lake Martin as Auburn Head Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl hosted his 10th annual charity golf tournament.

“Man, Children's Harbor was just such an easy fit, with kids with all sorts of challenges health wise and their families get to come out to beautiful Lake Martin and have an amazing experience”, said Pearl.

Since the implementation of both the transfer portal & NIL, there’s not much time for golf. Pearl and his staff are constantly working, because when you compete and recruit in the SEC you have to be on 24/7, 365.

“It's a dog fight, everybody is investing, everybody is playing in a big way in the NIL space which has made things even more competitive and you've got programs, everybody is committed. Who's not all in the SEC?”, said Pearl.

Quite possibly the most notable player in today's field was first year Auburn Head Football Coach Hugh Freeze, who is here to support not just his Pearl the co-worker, but Pearl the friend, and for a good cause.

“I mean, I love Bruce he's been so supportive of me and we have a good friendship and help each other everytime we can and obviously to do something like this that benefits kids it's a joy to both me and my wife and I are here and looking forward to joining with bruce to raise some money today”, said Freeze

Pearl and his Tigers will be back on court in a couple of weeks for summer workouts, but there’s still plenty of work to be done on the roster. As we near towards the 2023 NBA Draft we’ll know whether or not Johni Broom will be going pro or returning to the plains.
