WASHINGTON (TND) — There is a new top beer in town after critics continue to call for boycotts of Bud Light.
The beer started to face heavy criticism after it partnered with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney for a social media promotion at the beginning of April.
Modelo Especial took the top spot in May, according to an analysis of Nielson data by consulting firm Bump Williams.
The week ending May 27 saw Modelo Especial achieve sales of approximately $341.9 million while Bud Light recorded sales of about $298.6 million.
NielsenIQ data cited by Goldman Sachs says that Anheuser-Busch sales have fallen by 10% or more each week for the last four weeks when compared to the same weeks last year.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Anheuser-Busch CEO Michel Doukeris said the backlash his company is experiencing is rooted in “misinformation” as the partnership with Mulaney “was not an advertisement.”
Most recently, Target has been criticized for stocking LGBTQ+ children’s merchandise.
A workers union comprised of Starbucks employees sounded the alarm Tuesday saying the popular coffee shop is banning Pride Month decorations in its American stores.
Spokesperson Andrew Trull pushed back against the claims and said there has been no change to the coffeemaker’s corporate policy regarding the decorations.
