Tomorrow on Monday, May 11, (effectively immediately) will begin Governor Kay Ivey's amended Safer At Home order to loosen restrictions on restaurants, gyms and salons who have suffered significant financial losses during the coronavirus pandemic.

City of Anniston reopening updates:

All City of Anniston public parks will be made accessible, effective Monday, May 11 at 8:00 a.m.

Groups that visit city parks must maintain an appropriate 6 foot distance from one another at all times.

All playground equipment on city parks and other outdoor recreational structures such as basketball courts, will remain temporarily off limits to public, per the guidance of the State of Alabama's Health Officer.

The Anniston Aquatic & Fitness Center will open to the public at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11. The hours of operation for this facility will be as follows:

  • Open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
  • Open Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
  • Closed Sunday

This Anniston Aquatic & Fitness Center's pool will also open to the public at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, May 11, with the following hours:

  • Open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
  • Open Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
  • Closed Sunday

Until further only structured activities will be permitted within these facilities, that is to say no "free play" will take place. Furthermore, said structured activities will adhere to the social distancing and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the Alabama State Health Officer. In addition, only "Lap Swimming" will be permitted in this facility's pool, and those who wish to swim must come dressed.

UAB: As parts of Alabama’s Safer at Home measures begin to relax on Monday, May 11, we encourage you to continue to reiterate the importance of practicing social distancing and maintaining at least 6 feet of distance while out in your communities. If you do go out:

  • Wear a mask
  • Stay six feet apart from others
  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer
  • Stay home if you are sick
