Drive by shooting in Midfield leaves one man dead

One man is dead after an early morning drive-by shooting, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 1400 block of Rayfield Drive in Midfield on a report of a person shot. The victim, 29-year-old Javaris Deon Patton, was sitting on a porch around 2 a.m. when shots were fired from a vehicle.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found Patton with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said multiple shots were fired at the home.
