The old saying goes, "when one door closes, another one opens." Over the past few days, many doors have unfortunately had to close, but some of the many that continue to stay open are those of grocery stores.

Across the state and country, hours and lines have been long at grocery stores as COVID-19 continues to spread. At the Piggly Wiggly stores in Warrior and Clay, workers will be getting an extra $2 an hour until COVID-19 calms down.

Many of the stores customers say the workers continue to go above and beyond the call of duty.

“They’re well worth it," shopper Bobby Riggs said. "They’re some of the nicest people. You would think during this mad rush, there would be a lot of panic, but they are very helpful, and they’re worth every penny extra that they get paid putting in the long hours.”

“A lot of people don’t think about the people that are putting the food out there, that are ringing them up, getting their necessities to get through each day, and they’re doing that," shopper Shaun Knopf said. "You can’t say enough about them, you really can’t. You can’t thank them enough for what they do.”
