Two out-of-state finalists named for Bessemer City Schools Superintendent position

The Bessemer City Schools district has announced its two finalists for the open superintendent position following first-round interviews with the city's Board of Education this week. The two candidates invited back for a second round of interviews are both from out of state.

The finalists include Dr. Dana Arreola from the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, Texas, and Dr. Daniel Gallagher from the Bound Brook School District in New Jersey. The two were chosen from a list of five candidates who were interview Thursday. You can watch that meeting on the school system's YouTube channel.

Dr. Dana Arreola, Executive Director of Leadership Development with the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, TX since 2020. Dr. Arreola has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts in Counseling, and a Master in Education Administration all from Prairie View A&M, together with a Doctorate of Professional Leadership from the University of Houston.

Dr. Daniel Gallagher, Assistant Superintendent of Bound Brook School District in Bound Brook, NJ since 2022 having previously served as Superintendent in the district for 8 years. Dr. Gallagher has a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Athletic Training from Kean University, a Master of Arts in Education Administration from St. Peter’s University, and a Doctor of Education degree from Saint Elizabeth University.

The second round of interviews will be held at the Bessemer City Middle Library starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 12. Arreola's interview will happen first with Gallagher's interview scheduled for an hour later. The board will then have a meeting at 8 p.m. Monday to select the next superintendent. It will also be streamed live on YouTube.
