An 18-year-old was killed early Sunday morning outside a residence in the Inglenook community. The Birmingham Police Department has now started a homicide investigation.

Montraevious DeWayne Milton of Pinson was identified as the victim of the shooting. Officers found Milton in the roadway and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Milton was working on getting his high school diploma with Tellis Educational Services, and was set to graduate on July 29 of this year.

Police initially responded to the 4100 block of 49th Terrace North around 2 a.m. on reports of multiple shots fired. The call was updated to a person shot.

Police said its preliminary investigation suggests a party was being held at a residence when an argument took place outside and shots were fired. Police said they recovered more than 100 shell casings around the scene.
